Marling Console
Brief
Design a media console utilizing birch plywood. The console should be able to hold vinyl records and large coffee table books. Make the console easy to assemble & disassemble for moving.
Inspiration
Concept Development
I played around with pieces that could be modular and focused on making sure the entire assembly had a balanced look. One section I turned 90 degrees for book storage. The section balancing that became a door with closed storage for concealing any electronics.
Finished Product
The final product consists of two box sections and a base piece. The boxes rest on the base and can be swapped depending on what end books should be stored. Because the form is simple, I added visual interest with walnut joinery pieces and constructed the base to highlight the layers in the birch plywood.
