Newgrange Lamp

Brief
Create a flat-pack hanging lamp in 2 days during study abroad travels throughout Ireland. Lamp should be inspired by an element seen while traveling.
Inspiration

Inspiration (Continued)
While studying abroad in Ireland, one site visit was to Newgrange, a Neolithic monument in County Meath. This ancient temple is older than Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids. I took inspiration from the spiral markings on the stones located at the monument's entrance.

Concept Development
Because of the short duration of the project, most time was spent working hands-on with poster board and cardstock to develop models that would be included in a laid-back presentation at the end of the second day. I knew I wanted to use concentric circles to mimic the swirls on the Newgrange stones and I was heavily inspired by the Panton pendants in the way light bounces off and diffuses through surfaces. The curve on the piece supporting the circles and shrouding the lightbulb mimics the curved mound of the monument.
